Welcome to the Acer Aspire One Blog
I finally joined the netbook revolution and picked up an Acer Aspire One A1101 netbook. This is what a laptop should have always been. My current laptops are huge and hardly portable, this Aspire One can be taken anywhere, is fully functional and is a wonderful machine. This blog will be dedicated to the upgrades, hacks and different installs that I do to my machine and news and reviews of similar devices. I’m currently running Windows XP on the A1101 (the SSD version) almost flawlessly. I’m really interested in this netbook/laptop and look forward to posting articles related to this little machine. Enjoy!

Actually, if you have a SSD version of acer Aspire One, to tweak the slow SSD, you just need to is (1) format your XP with fat32, not NTFS (2)disable the paging file in XP, (3) upgrade the ram to a total 1.5GB, (4) go to task manager and click “view” tab and update the speed to high. (5)Install ‘Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs’ is the best choice as it is the lite version of WinXP debutted originally by Microsoft’s folks, unlike those done with nlite.
If you don’t know how to disable paging file, do the two things as follows:
(1)
1. Enter System Properties, either by right-clicking the My Computer icon on the desktop and selecting Properties or by doing the same to the My Computer icon in the Start Menu.
2. Once the System Properties window has loaded, click the Advanced tab and then click the Settings button under Performance, as shown in Figure 11-4.
3. Once you are in the performance options, click the Advanced tab again.
4. Click the Change button that is located under the Virtual Memory section.
5. This will load the Virtual Memory screen. Locate and select the No Paging File radio button, as shown in Figure 11-5, under the Paging File Size for Selected Drive section.
6. Click the Set button and then click OK three times and you are finished. After you reboot, your page file will be disabled.
(2)
Go to Start>Run, type in: regedit
Follow this string to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\DisablePagingExecutive
Double click DisablePagingExecutive
Set the value to be 1
Restart your computer for this to take affect
That’s all. Afterall, you don’t need to sell your Aspire One. Follow my instructions and you get the rarest lag with your One.

I’ve had my Aspire One for about 3 months now. I’m having problems with connecting it to my home wireless network. I can connect to unsecured networks but not secured. As of last weekend, I can no longer even connect to unsecured networks. The laptop sees the network and shows “strong” connection, but the browser IE7, will not get to the internet.
Any suggestions?
thanx in advance, T$

I have the 150 aa1 with 160 GB and 6 cell battery. Love it except I’ve tried everything to get the built in mic to work (deaf mic). I hate to send it back because I’ve got lots of favorite software on it.

I have just preordered the 10.1 inch acer aspire one. I already have 8,9 version (150 model) but I reali would like a little bigger monitor with same specifications. Only one negative thing so far with my current acer computer laptop – very easy to scratch the blue cover if you use it a lot.

I got my acer one a few days ago running on the NTFS with 160gb and 1.5gb ram, and its just sooooo sloooow when doing anything, struggles to even play a song on media player without a lag. i’ve disabled pagin, changed perforamnce to high, basically everything apart from re-format with fat 32. this is because i don’t have an external disk drive therefore i wouldnt be able to reinstall windows, plus what about all the drivers?
any advice what i can do?

I will never buy another Acer! I have had an Aspire One for a little over a year and have put up with its quirky performance for the great portability. Recently the battery died and so I went to Staples who did not stock the battery and they referred me to the Acer 800 number. When I called doing something that the company certainly would want to filter (like giving them $100 for a new battery) the phone system would not accept their 11 digit code and kept hanging up on me. After 4 frustrating tries at trying to give this company money, I then went online and found that there is a BIOS upgrade which may allow me to charge my totally discharged battery.
Things really got better from here. Going through the model numbers on the download page, mine was not listed. So, back to the comment section I found that my ZG5 is also either a AO110 or a AOA150! Imagine that! So, now armed with my models aliases back to the download page. Surprise, surprise!!!! Neither of these models are listed either!
So, now it was my turn to talk to Acer customer support. Through the magic of technology I was quickly directed from my NH kitchen to some call center in India! My first call was terminated because he could not understand my Boston accent! (that was a switch!) My next call there went almost as good. After calling Acer customer support and telling him I had an Aspire One he then asked me 4 times if it was an Acer! (are they also made by Chevrolet?) He could not help so he gave me another 800 number which surprise, surprise is not open on weekends!
I am sure the multiple layers below the CEO of Acer tell him how good things are going, but does he know how difficult it is to sell something. There are people out there like me who tried to buy something from Acer and because of how we were treated will never do business with Acer again!
